Thread Vein Removal
Thread Vein Removal | Laser & IPL Treatment
At LaserLife Clinic, we have sourced the latest state of the art equipment for the reduction of spider veins and thread veins to ensure we deliver the safest most effective solution to our clients.
Our laser vein removal procedure targets and coagulates the purple/blue veins, effectively cutting off the blood supply without damage to the epidermis or surrounding tissue.
Once blood is no longer supplied to the vein, it is naturally absorbed and expelled by the body. This treatment is most effective when targeting spider veins and smaller broken veins.
What are Thread Veins?
Thread veins are rather common; these tiny blood vessels run close to the surface of the skin and look like a fine red, or sometimes purple, spider-like lines. Which is why they are often called ‘spider veins’ or ‘broken veins’. However, despite the name, these veins aren’t broken, only slightly enlarged. The medical term for them is telangiectasia.
Am I suitable for thread vein treatment?
Most superficial red skin lesions including facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, port wine stains are usually treated with IPL. Whereas leg veins up to 3mm in diameter are usually treated with Laser.
Unsightly thread veins are also known as broken capillaries and various other vascular lesions on the face or body can be safely removed using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or Laser.
Prior to treatment
This form of treatment is suitable for many people, however, some medications can interact with the IPL. Therefore prior to treatment, you must first undergo a consultation where we will obtain details about your medical history in order to confirm your suitability. Before proceeding we will ask you to give informed consent. During your consultation, we will also carry out a test patch will to make sure the treatment is the right choice for you.
How quickly will I see the results?
Treatments typically take from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the type, the number of vessels and the severity. After the treatment thread veins can disappear straight away, or they’re visibly reduced. However, it may take 2-6 treatments to see the maximum results, though small lesions may clear in just a single session. You may need repeat treatments, these are often spaced every 4 to 6 weeks.
How is Thread Vein Removal Performed?
Both IPL and Laser systems emit light, which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, this heats them to a point where they are then destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as the body absorbs and dispenses them, leaving little or no trace of the original vessel.
For IPL treatments, we will apply a thin layer of gel to the skin to aid light absorption by the vessel. The light applicator is then placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and where we will repeat the process. Following on, we will remove the gel and cool the area. A similar process is also carried out for Laser treatment except the gel is not required.
