Fractional Resurface

What is Fractional Resurfacing?

Fractional laser skin resurfacing (ablative) provides total rejuvenation to give the skin a smooth, youthful and glowing appearance. The YAG laser we use targets minute sections of the skin with laser light, which penetrate into the tissue, causing small columns of thermal damage to stimulate significant collagen renewal. The skin looks tighter due to immediate collagen shrinkage, and is followed by long-term stimulation of fibroblasts which will produce new collagen over the following months. The surrounding, non-affected areas of skin facilitate faster healing; aiding the body’s natural recovery process, giving dramatic results without the significant down-time associated with traditional ablative laser procedures.

Is it Right For Me?

Fractional laser skin resurfacing provides total rejuvenation to give the skin a smooth, youthful and glowing appearance. It is particularly suitable for, photo damaged skin, congested skin, mild scarring, pigmented lesions and as an anti-ageing treatment. To Make sure this treatment is the right solution for you, a consultation is carried out in which a medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment, there is also an opportunity for any questions you may have to be answered. Before treatment commences you will be asked to give informed consent and a small test patch will be carried out at least 24 hours prior to your first session:

What does it treat?

Fractional resurfacing can treat a number of things, including the removal of fine lines and wrinkles, improvement of deeper wrinkles, repair of sun damaged skin on the face, neck, shoulders and hands, the reduction of age spots and blemishes, acne scars and hyperpigmentation (areas of darker pigment or brown patches in the skin).

What to Expect from the Procedure?

During the treatment, you'll feel a warm, heating sensation with some mild stinging. After treatment the skin can be quite hot and so cooling packs are often utilised to minimise discomfort.
Post-treatment, you will experience a mild sunburnt sensation for a few hours after treatment and the skin may be red for 1 to 2 days. This is a normal sign that the skin is healing at a deep level. Swelling is likely but minimal, and resolves in 2 to 3 days. The common side effects are, as the healing process occurs, your skin may have a ‘bronzed’ appearance that lasts from 3 to 10 days, depending on the treatment level. Your skin will naturally exfoliate and may flake as if you had mild sunburn.
Other adverse effects are rare but can include a small blister or temporary change to skin pigmentation, such as a darkening of the skin.

How many Treatment are Necessary?

Improvement is evident after the first session, but for optimum results 3 to 6 treatment sessions are often advised. Treatment is carried out every 2 to 6 weeks, depending upon the level of rejuvenation required. Typically at each session the entire face (or hands, neck or décolleté) is treated. This leads to a far more consistent result than limiting treatment to an isolated problem area. Treatment sessions typically take 30 minutes.
